Paul R. Buikema has been associated with Goldstine, Skrodzki, Russian, Nemec and Hoff, Ltd. since 2000 and a partner since 2002. Paul assists clients with the acquisition and disposition of real estate, primarily commercial. He counsels clients on the appropriate time to use tax-deferred like-kind and/or reverse exchanges (1031 exchanges) and helps clients obtain the necessary entitlements, including annexation agreements, special use permits, variances, right-of-way vacations and text amendments, as well as any county or municipal financial assistance that would help develop clients’ property. Paul also has experience in helping clients draft declarations of covenants and restrictions for homeowner’s associations, form new entities and prepare estate planning documents.
Among his transactions during his tenure at the firm, Paul assisted a continuing care retirement community in obtaining the necessary entitlements for a 277-unit facility, obtained tax increment financing incentives and 6b tax relief for industrial development projects and helped a national waste disposal company in obtaining a special use permit for operation of a transfer station.
Active in the community, Paul has been a member of the Boards of Directors of Cary Christian Center, Cary, Mississippi, and Bethshan Association, Palos Heights, Illinois. Additionally, Paul served as a deacon of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church from 2001-2003. Since 2003, Paul has been a project manager of the Church’s Facility Management Team, which is charged with developing, financing and constructing a new 70,000 square-foot building.
